Updating the robot

Modified on Tue, 9 May, 2023 at 4:18 PM

From time to time, to introduce new features and improvements to the robot we release application updates. Updates are free of charge.

Internet access is required to perform the update process!

Mobile applications

If a newer version of the robot’s firmware becomes available, you will receive a notification from the Photon Originals application – you will see the following update prompt Photon has to be updated. To perform the update process, press the Update button.

In case your robot's battery charge level is too low, you won’t be able to proceed and will see a relevant notification. Connect the robot to recharge the battery. When it reaches the minimum battery charge level to perform the update, disconnect it and proceed with the update.

A Bluetooth reset is required to perform the update. The application will do it itself, but you need to allow it.

Throughout the process, the robot's eyes and ears will blink alternately. This only confirms that the robot is in the update mode. For a few seconds you will see a screen confirming the ongoing update (no percentage progress bar). If it stays for more than 15 seconds, you need to enter the update mode again (more: Problems with updating).

If the update is running properly you will see the upgrade progress bar and percentage.

DO NOT try to turn off or charge the robot when it is upgrading!

Upon successful upgrade, the robot will restart. Completion confirmation shows on the app.

Photon Magic Bridge

A message about available updates in the Photon Magic Bridge shows up when you connect to the robot. Click the Update button to commence the update process. After successful data upload, the robot will restart. Completion confirmation shows on the app.
